La Col.lá Propinde is an Asturian Folk Band formed in early 2000.Since the beginning the band takes different sonorities from the ancient repertoire and then enriches it with many other different music styles ranging from pop, rock or ska to reggae but always without moving away from traditional lines and Celtic roots, having as a result a fresh sound involved with social realities. The band has released three albums, two with the record company “L´Aguañaz, “L.l” in 2002, “Güeria” in 2005 and the last one, “A Teyavana”, with the record company “Algamar Producciones All of them recorded and produced in “TUTU Estudios” with Sergio Rodríguez as a producer. .

In July 2001,the band contributes with a song, “L’emigrante”, in “L’Asturianu vive, la llucha, sigue” edited by “La Xunta Moza” and “L’Aguañaz Records” and produced by Paco Loco in ODDS Norte Studios (Gijón), among many other Asturian rock and folk bands. A year later, their first album was finally released, “L.l” (Che) being a total success having as a result a new, fresh an innovative sound. In 2003 the song “L´Emigrante“ was awarded as the best Folk song 2003 in Asturias .

In November 2005, one of the songs included in Güeria, ”Suena`l camín”, was chosen as a sound track of the short movie “Sueñal camín” awarded in the Movie Contest ”No nos cuentes películas, hazlas” which was part of the “International Gijón Film Festival” 43rd edition”. In this short movie, many Asturian bands make a review of the mayor difficulties a band will go through till they are up and running. This song will be their second album´s hit “Güeria”, published in December 2005, where Traditional Asturian music fusion is the more common variant. Thus we can find it in songs like “Llandellena”, “Milenta”, “Cuerri pal monte”,…This album was dedicated to all those countrymen and women who are working hard in their fields with the only ambition of survival. In 2006 they collaborated with the hip-hop producer and singer “Dark la eMe” in his new album “Chigre y Dragón” with the song “Mi compromiso”.

In 2007 another Güeria hit, ”Güeria remix” was used as a main tune for the “51st Asturias Cycling Tour “.That same year they collaborated among 20 other bands with a cover of the song "Baila´l Mileniu" for the record "Perversiones" in a Dixebra Tribute, ¡SALÚ YA DIXEBRA”. In that same year .La Col.lá Propinde, released their first video-clip “Llandellena”, based on a true story and one of the most demanded songs, and was shooted in the town with the same name. This video-clip was directed by Delfu (La Tarrancha,K Nalón) and shooted and edited by Pablo Quiroga(Algamar Producciones).

During 2008,the band and Antena 3 TV- Notro Productions, two of the main Tv channels in Spain, came to the agreement of using La Colla Propinde`s music for an Spanish adaptation of the British television comedy "Doc Martin". While they were recording their third album, the band is invited to a live performance on an Asturian Television programme (TPA) “Camín de Cantares”, directed by Xosé Antón Ambás, an dedicated to a Pipe–player native of Carabanzo. The proposal was reflected in two traditional songs coming from the Asturian traditional repertoire, “A lo l.lixeiro y la muñeira” closing up the number five season of the programme.

La Col.lá Propinde is a mountain pass spread from the Asturian part of “Parana” to the Leonese slope of “Pendilla”.The name comes from the latin espression “pro” plus ”penditam”(beside the slope) and it was first used by “Virgilius” as a free passage from the ancient Iberian Peninsula tableland to the green lands of Asturias through the high mountains. It was also used as an strategical hillock by “Carisio” when Romans were trying to conquer Asturias coming from south to North.

After many centuries, the mountain pass was used mainly by stockbreeders and cattle dealers who wanted to trade with the cattle or just move to new pastures. We can say without any doubt that la Col.lá Propinde was a kind of “entrance” or “gate” always opened to new cultures coming from many places to Asturias and sharing their knowledge, folklore and traditions which are now part of our way of life.
